As the final days of MHST631 are upon me, I can look back and realize that despite having a fairly solid understanding of health promotion before this course began, I have learned many things these last 13 weeks. I truly enjoyed the opportunity to use course assignments as a means to delve deeply into health problems that are also part of my current job interest. It felt like I was able to support my work advocacy efforts through my school learning which created amazing synergy. It was like double-dipping in the very best way!
I had never considered that I could create a health framework and I really enjoyed being able to do so in this course. It made the idea of frameworks feel much less nebulous for me and more approachable somehow.
I also have really appreciated the reflective nature of the course in general. I think health studies and health care is moving in the direction of being critically reflective within our practice as a means to understand our positionality, biases and fundamental belief systems and how those things all can impact our decisions and our support of others – this is a very good thing in my opinion and will create health care spaces that are inclusive to more people.
I also enjoyed having the chance to dust-off my e-portfolio and start to build on it once more. Curation of important references and documents will assist me going forward and it was really interesting to see what I wrote and how I wrote it a few courses back when I was new to graduate school (and back in school after a very long hiatus). I can see some growth here and that is exciting.
Thank you Laurie and my fellow classmates for a great course – wishing everyone success in future courses and a wonderful Holiday Season.
